What I learned about Social Media from Armin Van Buuren

This post may seem like complete “fan service” to Armin Van Buuren, the Number ONE Trance DJ in the world for the FOURTH year in a row – but I wanted to share with you all just how wonderfully he uses social media. As well as feeling very uplifted by his music, I’ve learned a lot from him!

First, here’s his latest video that he announced via Twitter (@arminvanbuuren) to his over 275,000 followers on Thanksgiving Day:

So, in addition to Armin’s MULTIPLE YouTube Channels (remember, YouTube.com is the 2nd largest search engine in the world), he produces a weekly podcast, “A State of Trance“, his facebook fan page boasts 1.7Million fans (yes, that many!). He has 275,000 twitter followers, posts to other social media places like MySpace, and Hyves (a Dutch Social Networking site), and now has an APP for his latest album, Mirage for the iPad/iPod/iPhone! An APP just for his latest Album!

Through all of these integrated mediums, he lets his talent and musical offerings shine!

But, the thing that I love about Armin Van Buuren, is how through these mediums, he shares things freely! I’m a strong believer that there is SUCH a power in FREE! He gives away CDs, he shows full length videos, and he even gives technical tips and hints to other DJs in his YouTube channel! It’s as if every meeting is a moment to dance and have fun – like the best party you’ve been to. Then only after the party’s over, does he promote himself.

Now, mind you, I’m sure that Armin has someone (or multiple someones) who updates his social media for him! I would hope so! However, the tight integration and extreme multiplicity of his presence in the world of social media I’m sure makes a HUGE difference not only in his record and concert sales, but in how he reaches every single fan he has.

So “if you’ve got it – flaunt it” and share it freely in many many facets of social media. You could be number one in your own realm before you know it!
