Are you mastering your website or is it mastering you?

MasteryThe concept of “Mastery” is starting to permeate my thoughts these days.  When I speak to clients or potential clients these days, I’m often compelled to ask them the question, “What is your Master skill?” or “How do you see yourself putting your master skills to work in your business?” and then “How would you picture this mastery being shown and shared over the web?”

My favorite clients are the ones who go forward courageously with their businesses, no matter what changes come their way. These same people courageously change their web sites, add blogs, integrate social media, and adapt this external image to the changes and transformation happening within themselves.

My interview for Urban Admin

Posted by on Oct 9, 2010 in Fun, Marketing, Networking, WordPress | 0 comments

sherylAbout a month ago, my friend Sheryl Snitkin (she’s also a client of mine) of Urban-Admin.com asked if she could interview me for her upcoming client eNewsletter.   I naturally said yes!

As a Virtual Assistant, Sheryl provides administrative support for a wide array of individuals and small businesses.  She has an infectious “soloprenuer spirit” and loves the color purple!

In the process of answering her questions, it was great for me to put into perspective where I’ve been and how I arrived to where I am now.  So as an adjunct to my “About” page, I’ve added a sub-page with Sheryl’s interview underneath it. You may click there or read the entire interview by clicking the link below:

Follow on Twittertwitterverse (twít-er-vers) noun - The cyberspace area of Twitter. This naturally extends beyond twitter.com to anywhere you can twitter, which includes cell phones, mobile devices, and various social networking “apps” and applications.

I want to first thank Angie Glotzbach for introducing me to Twitter, and then also for some great “sit-down-consulting-time” to really dig into how I can use Twitter for my business. Angie is a Virtual Assistant who specializes in Social Media for businesses. If you are in the Twin Cities, you should contact her and have her share all of her tips and tricks with you! Oh, and you should follow her on Twitter too – (@angco_va).

Get Linked Minnesota!

LinkedMinnesota

I’ve recently had just an amazing time designing the website for LinkedMinnesota.com!  We of course went with a WordPress solution, so that the other staff and volunteers could easily blog, edit pages, and collaborate on the project.

LinkedMinnesota.com is a website for the LinkedMinnesota networking group on LinkedIn.  Through this new site, LinkedMinnesota will have guest bloggers, LinkedIn tips and tricks, and advertisements and announcements for their LinkedIn Lunches, Social Hours, and events like their Summer Extravaganza.

If you aren’t yet a LinkedIn member, I highly recommend it!  LinkedIn is the premier social networking environment for professionals.  You can engage in discussions, join groups with similar interests, create polls, post jobs, recommend other professionals for their work, and post your own profile or resumé!  Best of all, LinkedIn is FREE!

Maybe I’ll see you all at the Summer Extravaganza!

Tigertech Special – 4 months free hosting!

Posted by on Jul 21, 2009 in Networking, Productivity | 1 comment

tigertechspecialMy favorite hosting provider, Tiger Technologies, is offering a special incentive for web hosting until the end of July. If you sign up for hosting, or transfer your hosting to TigerTech by 11:59pm PST on July 31, you will receive your first four months of hosting FREE!

TigerTech has long been my hosting provider of choice, for MANY reasons.

  • You never have to pay for Domain Name Registration
  • They have a track record for environmental advocacy, and they are carbon neutral
  • The user experience with a hosting account couldn’t be any easier – no horrible jargon, advertisements, or hard to read control panels to decipher.
  • Above all – THE BEST customer service I have ever encountered from an internet hosting company – hands down!

The best advantage also, if I work on your web design project and you host with TigerTech, I will not charge any time for set-up of emails, hosting, or any other issue you may have that pertains to your hosting. I’ll take care of these these things for you FREE OF CHARGE, because I believe they are that good, and I trust that I will rarely, if ever, encounter any technical problem with regard to host servers with TigerTech.

To take advantage of this offer, click the image above to sign up for 4 months of free hosting!

It’s About Relationships

Posted by on Jul 18, 2009 in Marketing, Networking | 0 comments

Some of the questions I am asked all the time are “Can you really make it financially as a freelancer?” or “Can you make a lot of money that way?”, “Isn’t that risky?”, and a more recent one from a ‘former’ freelancer – “How can you compete with companies and online job bid sites that have such low prices or just want to put in the lowest bid?”

There are a couple of things that I believe separate the happy and successful freelancers I know from the “other guys” for lack of a better word.
